Yesterday, I listened to the podcast episode of OK COOL in which Dom Schott interviewed you about Halls of Torment, and I just had to try Grail as well. Well done, I really enjoyed it! Managed to do it with 31 deaths, the last trap made me laugh out loud. Funnily enough, this was the first "souls-like" I actually beat. :D

Thanks! You've made my day :D

That chat with Dom was really fun and I hope one day I get the opportunity to talk to him again. I was really surprised when he mentioned Grail. It made me think about making a bigger (but still very small) game in the same spirit. I'm considering to pick this up at some point. Right now I'm kind of dabbling in different disciplines while working on the final stretch of a different game at my daytime job.

In any case, thanks for playing! And I'm glad that you took my final troll-trap with humor!

I finished with 16 deaths.

You've scored a well deserved 16th place in the whole Ludum Dare 28 with that one. <3 Thanks to the visuals and the simple gameplay it had a great retro vibe in it, especially the  models added a lot to that. :) It was also super fun to figure out how each trap works. :D Congratulations for you to make such a delightful little puzzle platformer! Happily I wrote a recommendation article about it and also uploaded a short gameplay video. :)

Best wishes,
Sebastian

Oh, hello again,

thank you for your kind words and for the time you spent with GRAIL. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. This one means a lot to me. It was the first jam game I ever made. Every time I see someone playing it I remember that I intended to make it into a longer experience. I still think I should...

Also, nice playthrough you did there :)

Oh wow, really? I didn't know that it was your first jam game ever! Congratulations for making such a neat game in such a short amount of time at your first try, that's incredible! <3 It's wonderful to see how much progress you made since that in all the years. <3

Thank you!

It was the best jam experience I've ever had. I remember lurking on notch's  twitch channel while he was working on his entry "Last Minute Christmas Chopping".

I've had few happier moments in my life than these 48h home alone. And sadly, jamming never was this way again. I guess that's how you get used to happiness. I've learned to appreciate being content since then.

Only took me about 12 minutes to beat, but with 53 deaths along the way. That was really fun. It's truly the Dark Souls of one-button platformers... It's got all the key challenging dark fantasy action game elements: respawning to compensate for the unforgiving danger, tricky timing in the swordfights, traps that seem unfair the first time, no pausing, and skeletons. I'd also really like to see this concept expanded into a full game.

Thank you! Glad, you liked it :)

Well, I guess I should look into it and see how long it would take me to make a full game out of it ;)
